Cycle Mania
Saturday, May 16th, 2014

 

Join us for a fun family event in Downtown Lakeland on May 17th from 9AM - 1PM. The event is hosted by the @LakelandPD and will focus on the fun activity of bicycling and how to be safe while riding. The first 75 kids will receive bike helmets and a fun ride is planned to "pedal off" at noon.

Van Fleet Trail Cycling Challenge
Saturday, October 19th, 2013

The Van Fleet Trail Cycling Challenge is an opportunity for cyclists to get out and learn more about the premier cycling trails of Central Florida. 

These include the General James A. Van Fleet Trail, the Polk City extension of the Van Fleet Trail, the TECO/Auburndale trail, and the newest trail, the Florida Polytechnic University Extension.

This is not a race, but a personal challenge, whether you desire to ride five miles or one hundred miles,  Five trailheads/snack stops will be staffed during the ride for your convenience.

Registration packets, wicking polyester event shirts, and other goodies will be available for registered participants at the trailhead you designate as your start point.

BikeLakeland Educational Workshop Series: The Rules, Responsibilities and Rights of Bicyclists
Wednesday October 23rd, 7 pm

A panel of law enforcement officers who also enjoying riding bicycles in their free time will talk about the Florida laws as they pertain to bicyclists.

The workshop will take place on Wednesday October 23rd, at 7:00 pm at Florida Southern College, (Branscomb 201)

First Friday - June 7th - Taking It To The Streets
"Taking it to the Streets" is sponsored by the City of Lakeland with the event focusing on multi-modal transportation.  From the Citrus Connection and mass transit to bicycles, you'll be able to explore a variety of ways to get around Downtown and beyond.  

Bike Florida 2013 Orange Blossom Express Bike Tour:  
March 23rd – 24th, 2013, at Sun n' Fun in Lakeland.  This 2-Day Weekend Tour offers ride options from 30-65 miles each day and a century on Sunday.

Child of the Sun Triathlon – April 6, 2013 
The Child of the Sun Urban Triathlon offers a swim in a pristine, fresh water lake; an urban bike loop that includes stretches along three picturesque lakes; and an urban run through downtown Lakeland which features some of Lakeland’s most scenic views.

BikeBash13 - Saturday, April 27, 2013 
BikeBash 13 will take place at the Bay Street Parking Lot from 10am to 2pm.  The first annual bicycle festival will be held Downtown.  There will be local bike shops and bike groups, organized groups rides, and free helmets for children.  For more information go to:  http://bikelakeland.com/

Senior Games Bicycle Races - December 8-9, 2013  
The Florida Senior Games is an Olympic-style competition for athletes age 50 and over.  The bicycle races include time trials and road race.

2010 Florida ProBike/ProWalk Conference – May 11-13, 2010
The conference is a collaborative effort of many people and organizations involved with health, safety and the environment to move communities forward through well-designed transportation projects for walking and biking.

Lakeland Urban Mountain Bike Criterium – April 28, 2012
Join us at one of the most fun races you will ever go to. The downtown urban criterium is a great event for everybody. Spectators have just as much fun as the racers!

Bicycle Friendly Lakeland Community Celebration at Simpson Park
November 7th from 4pm to 6 pm

The City of Lakeland is holding a community event to celebrate being designated a Bronze level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists.  Information on the Bicycle Friendly Program, the City’s bicycle facilities, and public safety will be available.  Free bike helmets for children, bike bells, and bike lights will be given out.
