LAKELAND, FL (February 8, 2013) – Michael S. Folsom filed papers today to become a candidate for the Lakeland City Commission, At Large #1. Michael is the first to file paperwork for the At Large seat being vacated by Howard Wiggs due to term limits and his campaign for Mayor. Michael states, “I was born and raised in Lakeland, it is the place I call home, and I feel a strong urge to serve the citizens of this dynamic city as a City Commissioner. I will bring hard work and integrity to the city commission.”

 

Michael Folsom is a 4th generation Lakeland resident and is the proud father of a four year old daughter, Lyla. He has strong business and community ties. Michael is an honors graduate of the University of North Florida with a degree in Building Construction Management and is the President of Folsom Construction Management, LLC. He has been actively involved in the Lakeland community through his service on various boards and committees, including:

·         City of Lakeland Planning and Zoning Board

·         Leadership Lakeland Class 27

·         The Lakeland Rotary Club, Paul Harris Fellow and Former Board Member

·         Learning Resource Center of Polk County Inc., Immediate Past President Board of Directors

·         Platform Art, President Board of Directors

·         Sheriffs Commendation Award

·         Leadership Polk Class 5

·         Ducks Unlimited Lakeland Chapter, Past Chairman

·         Ducks Unlimited State Chairman Elect

 

“As a small business owner, it is extremely important to me that we are able to attract new businesses to Lakeland that will provide jobs to our citizens and create a more diverse economic base. As an entrepreneur and a young professional, it is a goal of mine to foster and support programs designed to compel our graduates to continue to call Lakeland home and immerse themselves in our community. I look forward to the opportunity to serve in a leadership position within our City and to provide continued support for the growth of existing businesses, attracting new businesses and enhancing the quality of life we all enjoy as ‘Lakelanders’.”
