Jessica Carmen Guevara is Octobers Featured Artist at The Loft Art Gallery LAKELAND, FL This October, Jessica Guevaras vivid cartoons of calamity and catastrophe will make their way to The Loft Art Gallery. Her artwork makes its debut during downtown Lakelands First Friday festivities on Oct. 3. A free reception with live music, wine and hors doeuvres is schedule for 69 p.m. Her work will be on exhibit through Oct. 31. Guevara says she believes cartoons are a great medium for revealing emotion and is inspired by mankinds desire for self-expression. Her art show SCREAM is a manifestation of the inevitable anxiety that school, relationships, money, career choices and our general existence brings. At first glance her art is bright and inviting, but when examined closer the figures are chaotic and warped, clambering to secure their room in the frame. Her passion for art began as a child living in southern California, where she routinely got into trouble for doodling strange creatures in class. She went on to study more realistic art at Brigham Young University, but could never fully give up on the sketches. I never did well in any of the lecture classes because the creatures would take over my notes, says Guevara. Finally after four years of battling them, I decided to embrace them. All the little creatures exploded onto giant canvases. I painted like I was on fire. After marrying Erlin Guevara and having her first child, she is refocusing on her lifelong dream of becoming a professional artist. Im creating with greater passion and velocity, and rediscovering my childlike enthusiasm and creativity, Guevara says. The Loft Art Gallery is located upstairs in Paint Along Studios in Lakeland at 123 S. Kentucky Ave. Hours are: Mondays, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Tuesdays-Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Fridays 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturdays, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Call (863) 409-5771 for more information or visit www.loftartgallerydowntown.com. Paint Along Studios and The Loft Art Gallery also present Artisans Alley, a monthly initiative to provide a venue where artists can showcase their work. Artisans Alley takes place every first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information about Artisans Alley, visit https://www.facebook.com/artisansalleylakeland. The Beatles is the ninth studio album by English rock group the Beatles, a double album released in 1968. It is also commonly known as "The White Album", as it has no graphics or text other than the band's name embossed on its plain white sleeve. The album written and recorded during a period of turmoil for the group, after visiting the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in India and having a particularly productive songwriting session in early 1968. Returning to the studio, the group recorded from May to October 1968, only to have conflict and dissent drive the group members apart. Ringo Starr quit the band for a brief time, leaving Paul McCartney to play drums on two tracks. Many of the songs were by less than the full group, some of them "solo" recordings, as each individual member began to explore his own talent. Upon its release in November 1968, the album received mixed reviews from music critics, who critcized its satirical songs as unimportant and apolitical amid a turbulent political and social climate. However, it reached number 1 on the charts in both the United Kingdom and the United States. The album has sold over 20 million copies worldwide and has since been viewed by critics as one of the greatest albums of all time. In September 2013 after British Phonographic Industry changed their sales award rules, the album was declared as having gone platinum.

On two successive weekends in October, the public can experience some of literatures greatest horror stories told by their ghostly writers in a candlelit mansion in Lakeland. Guests rotate through rooms as costumed actors masterfully recreate stories from the Victorian period, hailed as the golden age of classic horror tales. These stories were the New York Times best sellers of their day -- Edgar Allen Poes The Tell-Tale Heart, A.M. Barrages The Waxwork, and W.W. Jacobs The Monkeys Paw. Introduced by Frankenstein author Mary Shelley and Dracula creator Bram Stoker, Scared Vol. 4 will present the very best of the more than 14 stories that have been told during Scareds four-year run. An entertaining event that provides insight into the worldviews of literatures finest writers, Scared is a fundraiser for Geneva Classical Academy, Polk Countys only classical Christian K-12 school. 7Its curriculum is based on the proven trivium, the teaching mode used to train the Greeks and Romans, the Renaissance leaders, and Americas Founding Fathers. For further information about Geneva, visit www.genevaclassicalacademy.com.
