The Lakeland Regional Health Foundation is holding their Second Annual Promise Run! The Promise Run is a 10K run and 5K run/walk, designed to raise funds in support of the fight against cancer. 3900 Don Emerson Drive - Lakeland Linder Airport (map)

Lakeland Linder Regional Airport will celebrate the groundbreaking for a new Air Traffic Control Tower on Tuesday, April 21st starting at 10 a.m. The public is asked to arrive by 9:30 a.m. and park in the Lakeland Linder terminal parking lot located at 3900 Don Emerson Drive. The new 141 foot tower will be nearly three times the size of the current 50-foot tower.  The majority of the funding for the tower is coming through grants from the Federal Department of Transportation.

In 1968 a unique tradition began in Lakeland that continues today. The member civic and service clubs of Lakeland proudly announce the 47th Annual Public Safety Awards Luncheon to be held at the First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The largest awards program of its kind in Central Florida, the President's Roundtable, representing 12 local civic and service clubs, recognizes the top public safety officers from the Lakeland Police department, Lakeland Fire Department, polk County Sheriff's Office, Polk County Fire Rescue Services, Florida Highway Patrol (currently non-participating, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The College Education Allowance Program Award is awarded to dserving children whose parents work for one of the included agencies. The success of this program is measured by the support of the member organizations and corporate sponsors. Money raised is used to pay for awards, college awards, and complimentary meals for the award recipients and their significant others.

Harrison School for the Arts is pleased to announce the Spring Guitar concert to be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. Students will perform in a variety of groups ranging from 4 players to 35 (the entire department). In addition, they will perform solos from the standard classical guitar canon. The concert also includes music by Haydn, Leo Brouwer, as well as traditional Argentinian and Sephardic music. The Lakeland Derby is an annual Derby Style event staged on beautiful Lake Mirror in downtown Lakeland. With the entertaining flair of the event and the competitive spirit of the race, the Derby again promises to be a memorable occasion in 2015. Adding to the excitement, the Derby is scheduled on Friday, April 24, 2015, just one week prior to the Kentucky Derby.

The Lakeland Derby captures the thrill of a race and the purity of sports entertainment in a hometown setting. The true essence of the Derby is the reward of knowing the proceeds will support Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine. Runners and walkers will have a chance to experience what may be Florida’s most challenging and picturesque 5K course on Saturday, May 2 by competing in the 2015 Carillon Classic 5K Run & Walk on the grounds of Bok Tower Gardens, situated high atop “Iron Mountain” in Lake Wales, Florida. This annual event is open to adults and students in grades 1 through 12 and includes team competition opportunities. First, second and third place winners in standard age categories will receive a medal. The Carillon Classic 5k will enable participants, spectators and their families to enjoy the splendor and beauty of Bok Tower Gardens, one of Florida’s most unique treasures. The Rotary Playground in Hernando’s Landing on the shores of Lake Parker will be designed around the history of Florida and the joy of discovery. From a replica of a 16th century ship to a tree house to a zip line, the new park promises an experience unlike any other in our community.

As The Beach Boys mark more than a half century of making music, the group continues to ride the crest of a wave unequalled in America’s musical history. The Beach Boys have become synonymous with the California lifestyle and have become an American icon to fans around the world. The Beach Boys will pull into town to perform on May 2, 2015 at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida.

Did you know that Allen and Company and the Rotary clubs of Lakeland are bringing the Beach Boys to town? The four Rotary clubs of Lakeland have embarked on an amazing project. The Lakeland Rotary clubs are working with the City of Lakeland Parks and Recreation department to create an exciting new experiential playground around the historic expedition of Hernando de Soto. On Friday, May 8th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., a group of talented performers and local businesses will welcome artists of the Polk Museum of Arts 2015 MIDFLORDIA Mayfaire by-the-Lake. Presented by Creative Director Ferdinand DeJesus and hosted by Tonys Studio B, Division Opera is an immersive performance art experience. Mark your calendars now for the annual MIDFLORIDA Mayfaire by-the-Lake 2015, which is set for 9 a.m. on May 9 and May 10. Mayfaire is a free community weekend that features children's art activities, musical performances and food, all centered around beautiful, award-winning art. Approximately 165 artists will exhibit on the picturesque shores of Lake Morton. Mayfaire Saturday Night, a free street party at the Lake Mirror Promenade, will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. on May 9 and features  fireworks over the lake at about 9 p.m. Bring a blanket and chairs, and come and enjoy the night!
