On Saturday, April 4th, 2015 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, the City of Lakeland’s Solid Waste in coordination with the Polk County Solid Waste Division is sponsoring a FREE Household Hazardous Waste and End-Of-Life Electronics Collection Event, located at the Lakeland Center, 701 W. Lime Street, in the south parking lot west of WONN Radio Station. This Mobile Collection Event is intended to make it more convenient for our community to safely dispose of their waste and discarded electronic equipment.
Household Hazardous Waste - Accepted Materials
Paints, paint thinners, florescent light bulbs, motor oil, drain cleaners, pool chemicals, insecticides, household batteries, etc.
No biohazard (medical) waste or business waste will be accepted.
End-Of-Life Electronics – Accepted Materials
Computers, monitors, keyboards, terminals, televisions, stereos, printers, fax machines, video games consoles, wireless devices, etc. No more than five items per household please.

The Utility Committee serves as an advisory board to the Mayor & City Commission and is responsible for the review of Lakeland Electric financial and operational reports, fuel cost recovery, rate structures, contracts, programs and departmental initiatives. Utility Committee Meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month. Meetings begin at 1PM in the City Commission Chambers at City Hall located at 228 S. Massachusetts Ave.
The Zoning Board of Adjustments and Appeals hears and decides appeals for variances from the literal enforcement of the terms of the Zoning Code. Meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall located at 228 S. Massachusetts Ave Lakeland, FL.
The Annual Dixieland Spring Art Fest is held in the heart of the Dixieland Historic Neighborhood. This growing event celebrates local artists, food and music. Free to attend and free parking. Bring the kids for special activities. In conjunction, a special sculpture unveiling by Platform Art will be held at 2pm.
Be ready to enjoy local musicians in a beautiful outdoor setting. An array of food and beverage vendors will be on hand so you can enjoy delicious fare while grooving to the sounds of music. (No coolers will be allowed. As this is a fundraising event, concession sales will benefit The Rotary Playground in Hernando's Landing Project)

Due to the overwhelming appeal of great food as featured on today’s television programming, increasingly high-profile chefs are being recognized for their culinary genius. That energy, excitement and epicurean entrees are coming to Polk County! The Achievement Academy is proud to announce a new and fun-filled event, “Top Chef of Polk County,” which places the spotlight on the area’s leading chefs while raising funds for the Achievement Academy. This is a one-of-a-kind event!
As many as 15 of Polk County’s premier chefs will be invited to participate in this culinary extravaganza with each chef creating their own menu and preparing tableside a five-course meal with accompanying wine (or other libations) for a table of 12. Each Chef will create an ambience as unique as their culinary creations. An all-star panel of judges will rate each Chef on the taste of their creations and award the title of “Top Chef of Polk County.” Guests will rate the table and its Chef on a list of qualities that will include taste, menu selection, food presentation, wine pairings, tableside manner (“Personality!”) and a host of others that will combine to crown the “Top Chef of Polk County People’s Choice.” Awards will also recognize the “Top Philanthropic Chef” winner as well as the “Top Table Decor.”
The Lakeland Derby captures the thrill of a race and the purity of sports entertainment in a hometown setting.
