Platform Art is pleased to present Comfort, an exhibition of paintings, photographs, drawings, and prints created by students at Florida Southern College. Under the guidance and assistance of professor Kelly Sturhahn, Art Practicum students have come together to curate, manage and install a professional gallery exhibition. The exhibition will be on view from March 28th-April 26th, with an afternoon reception on, Thursday,
The students’ selection of works challenge the viewer to test their own levels of understanding of “comfort” in this show. While some of the works represent a state of ease and coziness, others are specifically designed to unnerve the viewer. Comfort is not only an exploration for the viewer to test their own comfort zones, it is designed to redefine what the visual manifestation of comfort may be. From expressive self-portraits, to color blocks representing depression and anxiety, to intentionally ruined photos of a home, to surrealistic drawings and a suite of prints that reach deep into the subconscious, these works speak to the audience on multiple levels.
As the creators and curators of Comfort, the students hope to engage the audience on both a physical and psychological level.
Please join us on Thursday, March 23rd with a reception from 12:30-1:30 in the beautiful lobby of Lakeland City Hall, located at 228 S. Massachusetts Ave., Lakeland, FL 33801.
