CITY OF LAKELAND INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION AT LAKE MIRROR

BRING CANNED FOOD ITEM TO BENEFIT VISTE

 

LAKELAND, FL (June 26, 2017) - The T.Mims Corp. Red, White & Kaboom Independence Celebration will take place  at Lake Mirror along the Frances Langford Promenade on Monday, July 3rd from 6:00 p.m. - 9 p.m. with a breathtaking fireworks display dazzling the crowd at 9 p.m. The festivities will start with a live concert featuring the energetic Jah Movement blending their brand of reggae that includes iconic pop songs with an island feel.  

 

Jah Movement have the distinction of winning Creative Loafing’s ‘Best Local Reggae Band’ in the Tampa Bay Area.  The band commands the stage with Damie Caines, former lead vocalist of popular band ‘Democracy’. He provides his unique sounds that many local reggae artists can’t touch. He shares the spotlight with Shantel Norman, who is one of the most popular female vocalist in Southwest Florida. She can sing ANY genre of music and she certainly entertains the crowd. 

 

Jah Movement has established a well-known name and reputation throughout Florida with a passion for live performances. They bring their own sound that includes reggae with a touch of R&B, Soul and Funk. You never know what popular songs they will pull out the box at each show!

 

Tom Mims, President of T. Mims Corporation said, “We are very excited to sponsor Red, White & Kaboom again this year.  It is an excellent opportunity for our community to come together in celebration of our great country and it is free to the public.”  He added, “However, we ask all those attending to bring a canned food item that will help those in need. All non-perishable items benefit Volunteers in Service to the Elderly (VISTE).”

 

During Red, White & Kaboom there will be a variety of food trucks around Lake Mirror so bring a blanket, bring your appetite and enjoy the festivities in celebrating our great nation.  The event will conclude with a dramatic display of fireworks over the lake.  The evening is free to the public and everyone attending is encouraged to bring at least one non-perishable food item to benefit VISTE. Those attending can bring their own cooler but no glass bottles please.  Also, no pop-up tents are large beach umbrellas are allowed.

 

There will be a Snapchat geofilter for the event so all those attending are encouraged to use the filter and share their experiences through social media using #redwhiteandkaboom2017 and #RWK2017

 

All City parking garages will be open for T.Mims Corp. Red, White & Kaboom.

**UPDATE: New Jersey Road is now open and the closure has ended.**

Lakeland, FL (June 20, 2017, 3 pm) | Water utilities had a detreated water main fail on the west side of New Jersey Road north of Edgewood Drive.  The water main has been repaired, however, an 18” storm pipe was undermined and collapsed during the process.

 

Public works crews are mobilizing to repair the storm pipe and until further evaluated, will not know the duration of the repair.

 

New Jersey Road will remain closed in both directions between Edgewood Drive and Phyllis Street until repairs are completed and the area is safe. 

 

Detours are in place.


Developer Green Mills Group Hosts Grand Opening of Aida Palms, a New Construction Affordable Housing Community.

 

Lakeland, FL (June 20, 2017) | On Thursday, June 22, 2017, the City of Lakeland will celebrate the grand opening of Aida Palms, a new affordable housing development. Aida Palms is a “green” certified community and will have 96 residences, on-site professional management, a fitness center, dog park, playground, computer center, clubroom and other amenities.

 

Aida Palms’ financing partners include JP Morgan Chase, Raymond James Tax Credit Funds and Florida Community Loan Fund. Raymond James provided an investment of approximately $15.5 million in tax credit equity and JP Chase provided a $5 million construction loan. Florida Community Loan Fund is the permanent lender and provided a $700,000 long-term loan.

 

“RJTCF is honored and very proud to be a small component of another successful GMG development.  We look forward to seeing Aida Palms enrich the lives of of so many deserving individuals and families within the city of Lakeland and Polk County.” said Sean Jones, Director of Acquisitions for Raymond James Tax Credit Funds. 

 

Construction commenced in 2016 and recently completed. Aida Palms began leasing in March 2017 and was fully pre-leased prior to construction completion. Total development cost was approximately $16.5 million. The community was developed and built on time and on budget.

 

“Aida Palms is a shining example of what affordable housing can be. We hope our residents will be proud to call the community their home, and we’re grateful for support from the City of Lakeland and our financing partners”, said Mitchell Rosenstein, a principal and co-founder of the community’s developer Green Mills Group.

 

During the grand opening, residents and guests will have a chance to interact with many of the groups responsible for Aida Palms’ successful completion, including the developer, financing partners and public officials.
