On Friday, July 10 at 3:00 p.m. Heather will be sworn in as LakelandPD's newest officer.

Heather was born in December of 1991 in Lakeland, FL. She grew up in Lakeland and attended Lake Gibson Senior High School where she graduated in 2010. She began her career at the City of Lakeland in the Parks and Recreation Department in 2012. In 2013, she began working at the Lakeland Police Department as a Public Safety Aide. Heathers’ dream was to become a police officer. In 2014 the Lakeland Police Department made her dream come true and sponsored her through the Kenneth C. Thompson Institute of Public Safety. Heather is the oldest child in her family with one sister, Amy (20), and one brother, Garrett (17).

We wish Heather all the best. Thank you for service.

National Night Out is a celebration of the partnership between the community and police departments around the nation. Here in Lakeland, it is a fun day/night centered around giving neighborhood crime a going away party, getting to know your neighbors and community, and this year promoting “See Something, Say Something!”

The 32nd Annual National Night Out celebration will take place on August 4, 2015. The Lakeland Police Department’s Community Services Unit (CSU) has taken the initiative to support this event with some new ideas in bringing communities together and placing more awareness on crime prevention.

We would like to invite you and your neighborhood or business to participate in the National Night Out celebration.   Download a Registration Kit

Applications are now being accepted for the 2015 Lakeland Police Department Citizens Academy. Classes will begin on Thursday, August 13, 2015 and conclude on November 19, 2015 with a graduation ceremony. This in-depth academy runs for fifteen (15) consecutive weeks with classes meeting every Thursday night from 6:30PM - 9:30PM. An additional firearms familiarization course is also covered one Saturday where participants will be given a chance to test their skills at the firing range.

The Citizens Police Academy (CPA) is designed for selected community-oriented citizens. The CPA includes detailed information on police topics such as uniformed patrol, special investigations (i.e., vice and narcotics), crime scene investigation, SWAT, K9 and many other areas of interest. Also included in the curriculum is a tour of the police station and communications center.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. You do not have to reside within the city of Lakeland to be accepted.

Although graduates of the CPA are not prepared for street duties, they do have a better understanding of the Lakeland Police Department and a greater awareness and appreciation of the challenges and decisions faced by Lakeland police officers each day.

The Lakeland Police Department is committed to fostering positive Citizen-Police interaction and cooperation. One effective way to achieve this goal is through citizen education into the philosophy of community-oriented policing.
