E. Main and Ingraham Intersection Gets Colorful Makeover
City Closing Intersections at E. Main Street and Ingraham Avenue for Painting
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY - E. Main Colorized Intersection Pilot Project May 21st
LAKELAND, FL (May 16, 2017) – The City of Lakeland CRA is partnering with Harrison School for the Arts, Rochelle School of the Arts and Boring Business Solutions to give the intersection at E. Main Street and Ingraham Avenue a makeover on Sunday, May 21, 2017.
The CRA is diligently working to transform and support the identity of the East Main District. Last year, a design competition was held to inspire interest in this important connection to Lakeland’s downtown. The influx of artistic interest helped define the task at hand – to create more art in public spaces.
These street murals are a way to help neighborhoods create a sense of identity and community pride. The colorized intersection project is an opportunity to reimagine and recreate the environment and work together on unique projects that benefit the City and the surrounding community. The project brings together local business and property owners, artists, city officials and staff in a unique and fun way. The centerpiece that is created becomes a sense of community pride that cannot be bought, and builds relationships that otherwise may not exist.
Partnership with Harrison School for the Arts and Rochelle School of the Arts
Inspired by the East Main Design District project, Art/iFact’s Elizabeth Hults was enlisted to create the masterpiece that will be the center of E. Main Street and Ingraham Ave. With Hults’ design, visual arts students from the Harrison School for the Arts and Rochelle School of the Arts will add their artistic flare to the intersection.
