New Artwork and Community Garden to be Unveiled at Platform Art Party

The Lakeland Community Redevelopment Agency and Platform Art will unveil a ceramic art tile installation on the Orange Street Bridge and a new community garden at 7 p.m. as part of the April 28th Platform Art Party 19 event.

Platform Art Party 19 will celebrate these public improvements and feature live music, dance, fashion, film, and visual arts all of which will be at St. Joseph’s Church from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. An admission fee of $15 in advance or $20 at the door will allow entry into the galleries and performance venues.

The Orange Street Bridge project originated with a desire on the part of the Lakeland CRA to partner with the arts community to connect Downtown’s many art and entertainment venues and also to enhance the connection between The Lakeland Center and the Downtown core area.   There is now a pedestrian walkway from the Lakeland Center to downtown enhanced by new shade trees, an installation of original ceramic tiles by St. Petersburg artist Beate Marston and a peaceful urban pocket park in what was once a fenced vacant lot.

The artistic tiles along the Orange Street Bridge reflect an urban agriculture theme and feature downtown skylines and flora.  At the foot of the bridge at New York Avenue and Orange Street, is a new community garden that will be maintained by St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Polk County Master Gardeners.

The bridge and the garden will be open to the public and the live music, food trucks, Equine Rescue and other urban agriculturally themed booths will be open to the public throughout the evening.

Platform Art performances are unique and unexpected with art, film, dance, fashion and live music.

Artists, musicians, and performers entertain through out the evening.   Beverages are available, and complimentary hors d oeuvres provided by Texas Cattle Company.  The event kicks-off at the Orange Street Bridge with a dedication from Mayor Fields at 7pm.
