LAKELAND ELECTRIC RATINGS AFFIRMED

 

Lakeland, Florida, January 15, 2016 — Fitch Ratings, Moody’s, and Standard & Poor's Ratings Services have assigned long-term ratings of AA-, Aa3, and AA, respectively, to Lakeland Electric’s 2016 energy system bonds. At the same time, all three rating services also affirmed the same ratings on the utility's existing debt. The outlook for Lakeland Electric is stable.

Lakeland Electric fared well due to many factors, including its competitive rates - which are among the lowest in Florida - and a dependable low-cost power supply provided by the utility’s own gas- and coal-fired power plants.

“We consistently have some of the most competitive electric rates in the state,” said    Joel Ivy, General Manager of Lakeland Electric. “Thanks to our strong energy production fleet, like McIntosh 5 and 3, and our ability to diversify how we produce or procure power, we are positioned well for the future and for our customers.”

LAKELAND ELECTRIC FUEL CHARGE DECREASE EFFECTIVE JANUARY 2016

LAKELAND, FL (December 7, 2015) - The Lakeland City Commission voted to decrease the fuel charge for Lakeland Electric customers $3.50 per 1,000 kWh effective for meters read on or after January 4, 2016.  The new fuel charge will be $40.35 per 1,000 kWh. After listening to a presentation at the Monday, December 7th Utility Committee meeting, staff recommended a decrease to the current fuel charge based on fuel forecasts in both the natural gas and coal markets.

RESIDENTIAL RATES BASED ON 1,000 kWh

Current                                              New Rates – Effective January  1, 2016

Base Charge    $  58.85                      $  58.85 (includes environmental charges)

Fuel Charge     $  43.85                      $  40.35 (includes fuel decrease)

TOTAL:              $102.70                      $ 99.20

The base rate includes environmental compliance charges that are directly related to federal and state initiatives regarding clean air and water mandates. Most of the expenses are related to energy production and include air emission controls, water quality monitoring and capital spending for equipment necessary to comply with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Air Act. 

Lakeland Electric bills are broken out for customer convenience in detail to show the base charge, fuel charge and appropriate taxes and service charges.  The fuel charge on a utility bill is exactly that, the actual costs for fuel used to generate the amount of electricity used within your residence.  Most utilities subscribe to the same billing practice and break out the base rate and the fuel charge for their customers. There is no mark-up in fuel.  In fact, fuel is a straight pass-through charge to customers. 

Based on Florida Municipal Electric Association data, Lakeland Electric’s residential rates after the January 1, 2016 fuel charge decrease will be the continue to be one of the lowest in the state. LAKELAND, FL (JUNE 1, 2015) - The Lakeland City Commission voted to decrease the fuel charge for Lakeland Electric customers $1.00 per 1,000 kWh effective for meters read on or after July 1, 2015.  The new fuel charge will be $44.85 per 1,000 kWh. 

 

After listening to a presentation at the Monday, June 1st Utility Committee meeting, staff recommended a decrease to the current fuel charge based on fuel forecasts. 

 

 

RESIDENTIAL RATES BASED ON 1,000 kWh

 

Current                        New Rates – Effective July 1, 2015

Base Charge    $  59.64                       $  59.64 (includes environmental charges)

Fuel Charge     $  45.85                       $  44.85 (includes fuel decrease)

SIGN UP FOR LAKELAND ELECTRIC eSERVICES

VIEW CONSUMPTION, PAY ONLINE & RECEIVE NOTIFICATIONS

 

LAKELAND, FL (April 3, 2014) - Lakeland Electric’s website has recently undergone a facelift. The site features an eServices Portal that allows users to conduct a number of business functions and monitor usage from any convenient location. 

 

Signing-up for eServices is really as easy as 1, 2, 3 on lakelandelectric.com.  

1.    Customers will need their Lakeland Electric account number listed on their utility statement.

2.    Provide the last four digits of your social security number or if the account is related to a business, then the Federal ID number.

3.    Lastly, select the correct picture from the prompt and then you are ready to start discovering the eServices portal.

 

Customers who sign-up for eServices can review their utility bill details and pay online. They can view their current statement, previous balance and transaction history.  Users can check their monthly carbon footprint and conduct business like disconnect service, transfer service to another address and for our winter visitors, they can restart their service all online.

 

Because of the integration with smart meters, eService users can view real time consumption (kWh and estimated dollar levels) at monthly, daily and hourly intervals. Lakeland Electric customers can also enroll in a new notification program through eServices.  Customers can receive text messages, emails or even voice mail messages on their devices about outages and restoration efforts.

 

 

Storm season is fast approaching and customers are encouraged to sign-up for Lakeland Electric notifications today so they will know if their power is out due to weather related issues.  Right now the customer notifications include outage messages that will let customers know that the power is out and when their power is restored. In the very near future, customers will be able to receive additional messages that will help them manage their electric service.  Customers can choose to have their notifications in either English or Spanish and they can receive notifications on multiple devices.
