City Closing Intersections at E. Main Street and Ingraham Avenue for Painting

Lakeland, FL (May 1, 2017) – The City of Lakeland Community Redevelopment Association (CRA) will partner with Harrison School for the Arts, Rochelle School of the Arts, and Boring Business Solutions to give the intersection at E. Main Street and Ingraham Avenue a makeover on Sunday, May 21, 2017.

The CRA is diligently working to transform and support the identity of the East Main District. Last year, a design competition was held to inspire interest in this important connection to Lakeland’s downtown. The influx of artistic interest helped define the task at hand – to create more art in public spaces.

These street murals are a way to help neighborhoods create a sense of identity and community pride. The colorized intersection project is an opportunity to reimagine and recreate the environment and work together on unique projects that benefit the City and the surrounding community. The project brings together local business and property owners, artists, city officials and staff in a unique and fun way. The centerpiece that is created becomes a sense of community pride that cannot be bought, and builds relationships that otherwise may not exist.

Partnership with Harrison School for the Arts and Rochelle School of the Arts

Inspired by the East Main Design District project, Art/iFact’s Elizabeth Hults was enlisted to create the masterpiece that will be the center of E. Main Street and Ingraham Ave. With Hults’ design, visual arts students from the Harrison School for the Arts and Rochelle School of the Arts will add their artistic flare to the intersection.

The City will temporarily close the intersection at E. Main Street and Ingraham Avenue beginning at 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning, May 21st, and will reopen the intersection at approximately 6 p.m. the same day.

CITY TO START CONSTRUCTION ON

LAKE BEULAH TRAIL PROJECT

LAKELAND, FL (December 9, 2013) – During the week of December 9th, City of Lakeland crews will start construction on the Lake Beulah Trail project in Downtown Lakeland.

The Florida Department of Transportation and the Lakeland Community Redevelopment Agency (LCRA) are funding the Lake Beulah Trail in order to beautify this gateway into Lakeland and the surrounding neighborhoods and to improve conditions for bicyclists, pedestrians and transit patrons.  Through this project, the existing five-foot wide concrete sidewalk will be replaced with an eight to ten-foot wide asphalt multi-use trail.  This project also includes the installation of decorative lighting along the trail, landscaping and transit stop improvements including the construction of a new transit shelter at the Hartsell Avenue intersection.

Construction is expected to be completed in Spring 2014.  Periodic lane closures are possible throughout the duration of this project.  Motorists are asked to use caution and watch for construction workers within the project area.

For more information, contact Mike Whigham at (863) 834-3300.
