Annual Holiday Walkabout

Tuesday, December 1st - Downtown Lakeland
This annual event in Downtown Lakeland celebrates the holidays with shopping, dining, music, horse-drawn wagon rides and more! Holiday music from many area schools and churches create a festive atmosphere. And don’t forget shopping!  If you want a gift that doesn’t say I was mass produced in a department store, then shopping in Downtown Lakeland is for you.  Stores and restaurants will be open from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm.

Free parking will be available at the main street garage. The public parking entrance is located on Cedar St. The Bay Street entrance is also open and can be accessed from Tennessee Ave.

35th Annual Christmas Parade

On Thursday, December 3rd the 35th Annual Christmas Parade will kick off at 7:00 pm with a fantastic fireworks display over Lake Mirror. The theme of this year’s parade - Lights of the Night...  Over 100 organizations will be participating in this year’s event. The parade will leave the Lakeland center and make its way down Lemon Street twisting and turning through Downtown Lakeland. Streets along the parade route will begin closing at 5:30 pm. Additional parking will be available after 5:00 pm in the Downtown parking garages and parking lots. </class="floatright>

So get your seat early and keep and keep an eye out for the Big guy at the end.

Saturday December 5th - Munn ParkSnow will fall in Lakeland as the 35th Annual Snowfest kicks off at Munn Park from 10am – 2 pm. This year’s event will feature two traditional snow mountains, a visit from Santa Claus, children’s entertainment, inflatables and food vendors will complete the day. Price for admission to snow mountain or the snow slide will be a canned food item or a $1.00 donation. Admission to the inflatables will be $1.00 All canned food items will be donated to the Polk county Senior Orphans Charity.

Santa's Calling

Tuesday, December 8th - Deadline for forms is Monday, December 7th
Special arrangements have been made this year for Santa to phone local children from his workshop. Santa and his long distance operators will be calling elementary school children on Tuesday, December 8th from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm. To ensure your child doesn’t miss out on this exciting opportunity you must complete a Santa’s Calling form. Forms can be obtained online or picked up at any of the following facilities:

  • Kelly Recreation Complex - 404 Imperial Blvd
  • Simpson Park - 1725 MLK Jr. Ave
  • City Hall located - 228 S Massachusetts ave

All forms must be submitted by Monday, December 7th.

LAKELAND, FL (November 25, 2013) – The annual Lakeland Christmas Parade is scheduled for Thursday, December 5, 2013. The parade begins at The Lakeland Center at 7:00 p.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m. at The Lakeland Center. The downtown area streets along the parade route will close at 5:00 p.m. Lime Street between Sykes Boulevard and Lake Beulah will close at noon.


For all parade events citizens are encouraged to use the Orange Street parking garage. The Orange Street garage is not on the parade route and visitors can enter or leave during the parade. All other parking garages are on the parade route, and vehicles will not be permitted to leave the garage until the conclusion of the parade.


The theme for the 2013 Christmas parade is “I’m Dreaming of…” and there are over 120 participants in this year’s parade including floats, marching bands and a jolly fellow in a sleigh.


A fireworks display that officially starts the parade will take place on Lake Mirror at 7:00 p.m. The fireworks will last approximately 15 minutes. The parade route begins at The Lakeland Center, travels along Lemon Street, turns left on Tennessee, proceeds right onto Main Street, goes around Lake Mirror and then heads back to The Lakeland Center via Orange Street (View Parade Map ).









LAKELAND, FL  (November 6, 2013) – The City of Lakeland will observe Veteran’s Day with festivities beginning Friday, November 8th at 6 p.m. with a free movie, the Glenn Miller Story at Lake Mirror. The movie is part of the Pics on the Promenade series and the night will include a rededication of the Frances Langford Promenade. The promenade was originally dedicated in 1946 with Langford in attendance.  Langford grew up in Lakeland and attended Lakeland High School before capturing the hearts of many entertaining the troops with Bob Hope during WWII. Langford actually plays a part in the Glenn Miller Story.  The Frances Langford Promenade at Lake Mirror is located at 121 S. Lake Avenue, Lakeland, FL.


The celebration will continue on Saturday, November 9th at 10 a.m. with a ceremony honoring all those that have served in the armed forces. The annual Veterans Day Parade will immediately follow the honor ceremony. The parade begins at 11 a.m. from The Lakeland Center and will end in Munn Park.  Munn Park will be the highlight of activity immediately following the parade with military displays, memorabilia, camaraderie and refreshments.  Park events will conclude at 3 p.m.


Honor Flight Mission #15 launches from Lakeland Linder Airport on Tuesday, November 12th taking 80 WWII veterans and their guardians to Washington DC to visit the WWII Memorial.  Join in the Welcome Home Celebration at 8:00 p.m. at the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport Terminal that evening.  Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices. The organization transports US veteran heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill.


The public is encouraged to attend all events celebrating the sacrifice and dedication of all veterans.
