Phase II of Utility Undergrounding in Downtown Lakeland Begins Monday, October 5th

On Monday, October 5th, Lakeland Electric will commence Phase II of its Oak Street Utility Undergrounding project by opening the Oak Street/Tennessee Avenue intersection to through-traffic and closing the Oak Street/Kentucky Avenue intersection for a period of 30 days. During this phase of construction, McKeel Academy parents will be asked to enter the drop-off/pick-up car line on Peachtree Street from North Florida and Massachusetts Avenue. Periodic lane closures can still be expected at the Oak/Tennessee intersection outside of McKeel Academy's drop-off/pick-up times.

The construction project is scheduled for completion this fall. During and following construction, Lakeland Police Department will be monitoring traffic conditions and motorist blocking intersections and driveways will be subject to citation.

Portion of New Jersey Road to Close March 24th - April 11th

New Jersey Road (from Edgewood to Crystal Lake Dr) will be closed to traffic beginning March 24, 2014 through April 11, 2014 while utilities in the
right of way are relocated and drainage work begins. The Signal at New Jersey Road and Sylvester will also be changing to an All-Red Flash mode in addition to stop signs being installed. This All-Red flash mode will stay in effect for a minimum of 90 days.

This work is in preparation for the construction of New Jersey Trail project being funded by the Florida Department of Transportation. Updates and maps will be posted on our website

ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE: Euclid Street and Avon Ave are closed at the intersection with Lake Hollingsworth Drive due a storm sewer pipe failure. The closure will remain in place until Friday August 9, 2013. Residents that live on Avon Ave and Euclid Street will need to use Clearview Ave to access their homes.

Starting Monday, December 10, 2012 Lakeland Electric will be closing portions of McDonald Street from South Florida Avenue to Ingraham Avenue from December 10, 2012 to February 1, 2013 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  The closure is necessary to allow Lakeland Electric enough room to relocate electric power poles and overhead electric power lines along McDonald Street.

This work is necessary to continue to provide electricity safely and reliably to Lakeland Electric customers.  A message board has been installed to advise those already using this route of the pending closure.  Traffic will be clearly routed by the appropriate signs and barricades to assist with an orderly flow of traffic.  Questions should be directed to Lakeland Electric’s Project Manager at 863/834-6497.
