GREEN CELEBRATION HONORING EARTH DAY
LAKE MIRROR EVENT WILL FEATURE LIVE MUSIC & GREEN LIVING DISPLAYS

LAKELAND, FL (April 6, 2015) - On Friday, April 17th there will be a free Green Celebration in honor of Earth Day with a concert & showcase at the Lake Mirror Promenade from 5:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. There will be live music from the Uncle John’s Band along with a variety of exhibits and displays promoting green living initiatives.

Uncle John’s Band is Florida’s premier Grateful Dead Experience.  In 1990, the band of talented musicians joined together to recreate the atmosphere and musical adventure of a live Dead show. Over the past 25 years, Uncle John’s Band has performed hundreds of shows full of musical energy. Since 1998 the band has performed every Thursday night at Skipper’s Smokehouse in Tampa and is famous for playing concerts and festivals.

The Green Celebration honors Earth Day, a day intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s natural environment. Earth Day was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in first held on April 22, 1970. Earth Day is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and it is celebrated in more than 175 countries every year. In 2009, the United Nations designated April 22nd as International Mother Earth Day.

There will be a number of exhibits and vendors that will have displays at the Green Celebration. The Polk County School Board will showcase programs and earth friendly initiatives designed to promote a greener more sustainable future. This year, Polk County Schools will exhibit a “green fair”. The audience along with a panel of judges will decide on the most innovative project that promotes a cleaner, greener environment.

The Green Celebration invites the Lakeland community to attend the free event. Bring a blanket, a picnic basket and enjoy the festivities as we celebrate Earth Day. Participants are encouraged to recycle, reclaim, reuse and ride a bike.

MUSIC ON THE PROMENADE FREE CONCERT FEATURING SOUL2EARTH, THE DAN SIGNOR PROJECT & THE WOMPS

LAKELAND, FL (January 21, 2015) — On Friday, February 20th there will be a Free concert at the Frances Langford Promenade at Lake Mirror from 6 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. featuring live music from three signature bands including Winter Haven’s very own Soul2Earth, the Dan Signor Project from Lakeland, and the Womps from Berkley Boston College of Music.

The night is a music tribute to Ken Williams from Center Door Productions who was a well-known member of the local music community before he passed due to health complications this past summer. The three bands are all connected sonically because of their relationship with Williams who served the local music community as a friend, a mentor and one heck of a sound engineer.

The Womps will start the show. This four-piece band is comprised of Berklee Boston College of Music students. These very talented young musicians take their combined knowledge and passion for music, as well as their extensive experience as studio musicians, and they form it into a tight sound that is guaranteed to deliver on a live sound stage! Band members include: JP Goldman on guitar, bass and lead/backing vocals; Kailey Jo Zercher on violin and lead/backing vocals; Colin Frecknall on drums/percussion and Jason Lilly on guitar. Their eclectic sound is a mashup with tinges of Blues, Rock, Country, R&B, Pop and Folk. The Womps list their influences as Geddy Lee, Pearl Jam, Neil Young, Joe Walsh, Jackson Browne, Mike Gordon, Geezer Butler, The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix.

Second to take the stage will be the Dan Signor Project.  This group of talented musicians will bring a unique blend of soulful vocals, rocking piano, jazzy sax and funky drums to their live performance. The three-piece band lists Elliot Smith, Billy Joel, Tori Amos, Pink Floyd and The Beatles as their musical influences.  The Dan Signor project is lead by Signor on piano and vocals, Jason O’Neil on saxophone and Jerry Escobedo on drums.

Closing out the show will be Soult2Earth. Hailing from Winter Haven, Soul2Earth has been together for almost 15 years. This very diverse eight-piece band is sure to please as they combine passionate playing techniques with soulful vocals delivering energy and excitement to the stage.  James Bouie and his sister Robin charge the crowd with their smoky vocals and biting lead guitar while Clarence Stevenson charges the room with his bluesy lead vocals.  The backbeat is delivered by Rich Brilliant who lays down the bass and Dean Amicone who keeps time on drums. Rounding out the band is Ben Crider on keys, Dustin Rittenhouse on rhythm guitar and Chris Bell on harmonica.  The band lists their influences as Jimi Hendrix, BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, James Brown, the Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt and Mavis Staples.

The music series takes place at the Lake Mirror amphitheater, which is between Hollis Garden and the Lake Mirror Center. The event is FREE to the public and families are encouraged to attend. Food trucks will be on hand and the Garden Bistro will be open so bring a blanket and enjoy the lake setting with music under the stars.
