NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the election of the Lakeland Downtown Development Authority will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. for all property owners not wholly exempt from ad valorem taxation and registered electors within the Lakeland Downtown Development Authority area. The election shall be held in the office of the City Clerk located at 228 S. Massachusetts Ave., Lakeland, Florida.

At said election, qualified voters will decide on three (3) Lakeland Downtown Development Authority Board seats. Seat A (currently held by Margaret Stephens) or B (currently held by Bretta Christakos) will be for a three-year term effective January 1, 2017 and ending December 31, 2019. Seat C (currently held by Thomas Anderson) will fill the balance of an unexpired term effective October 4, 2016 and ending on December 31, 2018.
Candidates must complete a Campaign Treasurer Designation with the Supervisor of Elections and then file with the City Clerk a petition with signatures of at least 10 downtown property owners, designated voting representatives, or electors residing in the District. Nominating petitions are available in the qualifying packet.
Qualifying packets are available in the Lakeland City Clerk’s office. Please call for an appointment.
Qualifying period for candidates will be from noon, Monday, July 25, 2016 to noon, Friday, July 29, 2016 in Bartow at the Supervisor of Elections Office, 250 S. Broadway Avenue. Any candidates who wish to run must qualify at this time. Candidates must qualify in person. There is no qualifying fee.
Candidates are required to file with the Elections Office a financial disclosure form of a general nature and campaign expense reports.
To serve on this Board and remain qualified to serve, all Board Members, except the City Commission member, must have their principal place of business or employment within the Lakeland Downtown Development Authority area or hold title to property within the Lakeland Downtown Development Authority area.
