Sector Planning is “organized brainstorming” to develop preferred scenarios for future growth and redevelopment within a given sector of the city.

Sector Plans can provide a basis for:

• making near-term and long-term land use decisions
• forming redevelopment and improvement strategies
• identifying Capital Improvement needs
• updating the Comprehensive Plan
• developing “carrots and sticks” to implement the plan
• identifying the need for additional studies and plans

Sector Planning Steps:

• In-house data collection, analysis, and mapping
• Meetings with city departments
• Meetings with outside jurisdictions and agencies
• Distribution of a public survey
• Meeting(s) with public stakeholders
• Development of alternative/preferred land use scenarios and associated goals and strategies
• Plan adoption
