Annual Leave |
| Regular full-time employees with less than 5 years of continuous service shall earn 8 hours per month. Regular part-time employees shall earn 4 hours per month. Upon completion of 5 - 15 years, employees shall receive 120 hours of annual leave per calendar year. Upon completion of 16 years or more, employees shall receive 160 hours of annual leave per calendar year. The maximum carry over is 20 days per year. |

Educational Assistance |
| Regular full-time employees, who have completed twelve (12) months of service are eligible for reimbursement for up to $1,400 per fiscal year. |
Employee Assistance Program (EAP) |
| All employees, full and part-time, and their immediate family members are eligible to participate in EAP, which assists employees with personal problems (including mental, emotional, financial difficulties, legal issues, marital, family and substance abuse problems). |
Funeral Leave |
| All regular full-time and part-time employees shall be granted, upon request, up to 3 days of funeral leave with pay, due to death in their immediate family. See policy for definition of "immediate family". |
Holidays |
All regular full time and regular part-time employees are eligible for eleven (11) paid holidays per year. Observed Holidays are: NEW YEARS DAY, MARTIN LUTHER KING BIRTHDAY, MEMORIAL DAY, INDEPENDENCE DAY, LABOR DAY, VETERANS DAY, THANKSGIVING DAY, DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING, CHRISTMAS EVE DAY, CHRISTMAS AND A FLOATING HOLIDAY
*When Christmas falls on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday, Christmas Eve will be granted as a holiday. When Christmas falls on Thursday, the following Friday will be granted as a holiday. (4 hours will be granted for regular part-time employees). |
Jury/Witness Duty |
| All regular full time and part time employees required to serve jury duty shall be paid by the city the amount that would have been received had the employee worked the regular shift. The employee may retain all fees received for such service. |
Military Leave |
| A regular employee who is a commissioned reserve officer or reserve enlisted person in the military reserves shall receive seventeen (17) working days with pay for this training. In addition, the City of Lakeland will provide 30 days of paid leave for any national emergency reserve call up, to include all members of the uniformed services. This 30 days is in addition to the 17 days per calendar year of military training leave. The City of Lakeland will also supplement the military pay of reservist called back to active duty as a result of a national emergency or war for a period not to exceed one year. |
Sick Leave |
| All regular full-time employees shall earn eight (8) hours of sick leave per month. Regular part-time employees shall earn sick leave on the basis of four (4) hours per month. Accrual is unlimited. Maximum payout is $8,000 and is prorated according to length of service. |
Sick Leave Pool |
| This program establishes a sick leave bank from which eligible and participating employees may receive benefits involving catastrophic, or long-term illnesses or injuries (minimum of 6 weeks time requirement). This program is not intended to supplement or replace short-term use of sick leave benefits. Employees can enter the sick leave pool after acquiring 40 hours of unused sick leave. |
Computer Purchase Plan |
| The City of Lakeland will assist Regular full-time employees, who have completed twelve (12) months of service with the financing of a personal computer so that they can gain experience by working with a personal computer away from the office, outside of normal working hours. The City will finance up to 80% of an eligible employee's purchase of approved equipment and software up to a maximum of $3,500. Payments on loan will be made through payroll deduction. The employee will be assessed a one-time 8% processing fee based on the amount of the City's portion. |
Compensatory Time |
| The amount of allowed annual compensatory time accrued is 100 hours. |
Suggestion Awards Program |
| The Employee Suggestion Program offers non-monetary and monetary awards to employees who propose procedures or ideas which, if adopted, result in the elimination or reduction of unnecessary expenditures or improving operations. |
