As summer draws to an end and school gets back in session, the Lakeland Fire Department personnel want to encourage motorists to be on the lookout for students making their way to school. Whether walking or riding, students are sharing the roadways. To help keep our children safe, LFD personnel will be out holding signs during the first three days of school reminding motorists to slow down, buckle up and drive safe. The Lakeland Fire Department will have an engine or rescue truck parked at a busy intersection near each of the eleven public schools and two of the charter schools in the department's coverage area. Our goal is to promote safe driving so there are no children struck by motorists while walking to or from school.
