RECORDS OF THE DIXIELAND HISTORIC DISTRICT SURVEY RG2390
This series contains the site survey forms for the Dixieland Historic District completed by the staff of Historic Properties Associates, Inc. for each of the 470+ structures more than fifty years old in the district. The forms include the following information for each structure surveyed: the address, the approximate date of construction, the name of the architect if known, the architectural style of the structure (e.g. bungalow, frame vernacular, colonial, etc.), a photocopy of a photograph of the structure, a map of the neighborhood indicating the specific location of the structure, and a "statement of significance." The latter is particularly useful because it provides a wealth of additional information about the structure in question. It places the structure in an architectural and historical context by providing a summary of the origin and use of the particular architectural style, as well as providing a capsule history of the growth and development of Lakeland. Some of the statements also include information about the original owner and/or builder of the structure and his occupation and possible significance to the history of Lakeland. The site survey forms are arranged numerically by the number assigned to them by Historic Property Associates. There is a street index at the beginning of the series which links the number of the site survey form to a specific address. There is also a map and newsletters of the Dixieland Historic District. |
