SUN 'N FUN FLY IN COLLECTION 1974 - 2002 RG2875 SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE In 1974 the Lakeland, Florida chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA, the national organization of people who build their own airplanes) decided to hold a fly-in for sport aviation enthusiasts in the southeast. The first fly-in, called Mid-Winter Sun 'n Fun, was held on a weekend in 1975 for pilots and aviation associations. Sun 'n Fun 1976 was expanded to a full week and the public was invited. Each year attendance has grown, both in number of aircraft and visitors from all over the United States and around the world. The collection includes programs and news articles about the annual fly-in and is arranged in Subject files. |
