THE AFRICAN AMERICAN EXPERIENCE IN LAKELAND
| |

| | Back | The Foster Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church was located at 515 West Orange Street in the Moorehead nieghborhood. It was built in 1913 and replaced an earlier wooden structure on an adjacent lot. It was the third church to be built in the Moorehead neighborhood, following St. John's and Mount Pleasant AME. Along with the rest of Moorehead, it was razed to make way for the Lakeland Civic Center in the early 1970's. (Photograph courtesy of LaFrancine Burton) |
