PINE STREET AND FLORIDA AVENUE
| |

| | Back | | Pictured above is the business district of Lakeland on Florida Avenue that greeted the Riggins and Waggoner families when they arrived in Lakeland in the summer of 1884. L. M. Ballard's Lakeland News was housed in the building in the foreground. Next is the North Bloc Hotel and a billiard parlor. Beyond that was D. H. Slone's "general merchandise" store, competition for the dry goods emporium that Riggins and Waggoner were to open at Tennessee and Main shortly after their arrival. |
