BERNARD FAMILY PAPERS (RG5300), 1899-1989

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The Bernard Family Papers were donated to the Special Collections unit of the Lakeland Public Library in 1989 by Dorothy Javorsky, widow of Howard Bernard. The condition of the materials varies widely. The manuscript materials are generally in good condition, while posters, programs, and newspaper clippings are in fair to poor condition. The materials were in no particular order when they were received.

The records in this collection represent only a very small fraction of those generated by the Bernard family in its nearly seventy year career in vaudeville and the circus. The fate of any other records remains unknown. The records that do exist provide a broad overview of the lengthy performing career of the Bernard family.

The records are divided into two series: Subject Files and Photographs. Series I, Subject Files, 1905-1989, includes correspondence, certificates of achievement, memorial cards commemorating the deaths of Floyd and Maude Bernard, (pictured above) newspaper clippings, and posters and programs advertising the performances of the Bernard's under their various stage names. Series II, Photographs, @1890-1960's, contains photographs of the Bernard family members individually and collectively under their various stage names, as well as performers with whom the Bernard family shared billing during its long career.

The Bernard Family Papers comprise 2.75 linear feet.
