RECORDS OF THE BARTOW ARMY AIR BASE (RG2755) 1940-2003
| | This series contains microfilmed records purchased from Maxwell Air force Base, Alabama of the 340th Army Air Force Base Unit, which operated from 1943 to 1945 at Bartow Army Air Field. It trained newly commissioned pilots on P51's. Chapters on these rolls include information on origin/activation of the base, current command, 530th base headquarters, 491st sub-depot, 1327th guard squadron, 40th service group, 54th fighter group, biographical data on key officers, personnel lists, photographs, sections histories, charts, operation/training, post engineer, weather station and other subjects. Most of the information is contained in chapters and in monthly reports, which include activities, personnel, operational results of squadrons, awards and decorations of personnel for prior achievements, biographical data on key officers, and a pictorial supplement (not copied).
Included are printed copies of the microfilm and a copy of the microfilm from which the printed copies were made. The printed copies are available for reading in the Special Collections room only and MAY NOT BE PHOTOCOPIED by order of the US Air Force.
The printed copies of the reports are arranged chronologically by date. The microfilm is housed at the beginning of the series.
