COLUMBUS W. DEEN COLLECTIN (RG5595), 1912-1994

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The Deen Family Collection was donated to the Special Collections unit of the Lakeland Public Library in 1995 by Lakeland resident Tim Powell. The material was in fair to good condition and in no particular order when received.

The material was clearly collected after Columbus Deen's death and may have been gathered in conjunction with the effort to get his former home (pictured above)listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Much of the material consists of photocopies of newspaper clippings, documents, and photographs. There is very little original documentation in the collection. It is useful, however, as a starting point for research into the life and career of one of Lakeland's early prominent citizens.

The collection includes a title abstract for a part of the Dixieland development, photocopies of documents relating to Deen's estate, a photocopy of the contract to build his home, photographs of Deen, a published genealogy of the Deen family, several photographs and a sketch of the Deen home, and photocopies of newspaper clipping relating to various members of the Deen family.
