SERIES II: SPACE GARDEN, 1921-2000
|
Lawrence Stanhope grew tomatoes using hydroponics and a tiered rack, which he patented in the 1950's as Stanhope's Sun Slope. This growing rack is the root of the Space Garden, which Stanhope said would fly at least eight miles high, headed west at exactly the same speed that the Earth rotates east, allowing for constant sun exposure. The amount of darkness then could be controlled mechanically. After failing 112 times, he finally got a patent in 1986.
