graduation at LSA

SERIES I: MEMORABILIA, 1940-1994
The records in this series consist of material donated to the Special Collections unit of the Lakeland Public Library by former cadets, instructors, and staff of the Lodwick School of Aeronautics and Lodwick Aviation Military Academy. Included are letters home to family members, samples of v-mail, diplomas awarded by the two schools, cadets' flight log books, identification cards, class rosters, written and oral reminiscences of the cadets' days at the schools, shoulder patches and insignia, yearbooks and other publications, a souvenir cigarette lighter from the Lodwick School of Aeronautics, and a military cap worn by a cadet while attending one of the schools.

Among the more interesting items donated are the following: cadet John Chapman's 1944 letter to his parents describing his first solo flight, instructor William Hawkins' day-by-day description of his flight training methods, Royal Air Force cadet Peter Kemp's graded ground school examinations, instructor Robert Koleman's memoir entitled Young Wings Over America, cadet Everett Lindley's harrowing account of his escape after his Lockheed Lightning was shot down over Germany in 1945, cadet William McGilpin's account of his progress from novice to accomplished pilot, and the letters to instructor Stanley Vossler form his former students during and after the war.

The records in this series are arranged alphabetically by the name of the donor and chronologically within folders.

The folder title list for this series cannot be reproduced here due to limitations imposed by the City of Lakeland's web page editing software. The complete folder title list is available in Speical Collections.
