WILSON M. 'HAP' HARPER PHOTOGRAPH COLLECTON (P800), 1957-1971
This series contains photographs of Lakeland and surrounding areas of Polk County taken by Wilson M. "Hap" Harper during his career as free lance photographer and photojournalist with The Ledger between 1957 and 1971. The photographs depict various buildings, people, places, and wildlife in Lakeland and in the surrounding areas of Polk County. By far the favorite subject of Harper's camera was Lake Morton and the many species of waterfowl that inhabit the lake. More than half of the photos in the collection depict scenes of Lake Morton and/or various species of waterfowl. Other subjects include aerial photographs of Lakeland, Lakeland City Hall, the Park Trammell Building, the Lakeland Public Library, Munn Park in downtown Lakeland, the historic private residences of Greylocks and Mosswood in Lakeland, the Lakeshore Hotel on Lake Morton, the Polk County Courthouse, Florida governors C. Farris Bryant and Claude Kirk, Publix Supermarket chain founder George Jenkins, and U. S. Senator Claude Pepper.

The photographs are organized into the broad categories of Aerials, Buildings, Exotic Birds, People, Places, and Waterfowl and arranged alphabetically by subject within each category.

The photo at right is of the Park Trammell Building on Lake Morton.
