LAKELAND POLICE DEPARTMENT COLLECTION (P2000), 1895-1004
| | This series consists of photographs compiled from a variety of sources, including the Lakeland Police Department, to be used in a pictorial history of the department. Many of the photographs were in fact used in the 1994 publication, The Lakeland Police Department, 1885-1994: A Tradition of Excellence. Other photographs were considered for, but not used in the publication.
Included are photographs of automobile accidents, evidence, crime scene investigations, group photographs of the officers of the Lakeland Police Department, photographs of some of the buildings housing the Lakeland Police Department, photographs of officers in training, a photograph of "Sarge," the first dog in the canine division,(pictured above) and photographs of street scenes of Lakeland from the 1950's. Also included are photographs of the following town marshals and police chiefs: John Logan (town marshal, 1905-09), J. D. Tillis (city marshal, 1913-14) J. I. Perriman (police chief, @1921), Roy Hutchingson (police chief, 1933-51), Dewitt Sinclair, police chief, 1952-53), Leo Brooker (police chief, 1953-73), Herbert Straley (police chief, 1973-80), and Lawrence Crow, police chief, 1980-87).
The photographs are arranged alphabetically by name or subject and chronologically within folders.
