LAKELAND POLICE DEPARTMENT COLLECTION (P2000), 1895-1994
| | The records in this series consist of documents collected by officers and civilian staff of the Lakeland Police Department as reference sources and illustrations for their proposed pictorial history of the department. Included are automobile accident reports, a bound city jail log and dog license log, a wallet badge and identification card for a police officer, a copy of the published history entitled The Lakeland Police Department, 1885-1994: A Tradition of Excellence, three typed and annotated drafts of the book, newspaper clippings, lists, reports, correspondence, and memos.
Among the most interesting items in this series is a jail log book covering the years 1943 to 1958. The log book includes the name of the prisoner, the name of the arresting officer, the alleged offense, and the office responsible for filing the charge (police, sheriff, constable). The back half of the volume was used to record the sale of dog licenses.
The records in this series are arranged alphabetically by name, subject, or type of record, and chronologically within folders.
