THOMAS MACK LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE COLLECTION (RG3855), 1953-1999

Scope and Content Note

The Thomas B. Mack Landscape Planning Collection was donated to the Special Collections unit of the Lakeland Public Library by Thomas B. Mack in a series of transactions between 1997 and 2001. The records are in good to excellent condition and were in no particular order when received.

The records in this collection document to some extent the landscape design business which Mack developed after he retired from full time employment at Florida Southern College. Some of the projects predate his retirement, however. The collection is equally divided between residential and commercial projects, and a significant majority of both types of clients were from Lakeland and the immediately surrounding area.

After Processing, the collection was divided into three series, Commercial Properties, 1967-1999, Residential Properties, 1953-1999, and Florida Southern College, 1983-1996 . The types of records found in each series are similar and include landscape plans and drawings, invoices, bid sheets, correspondence, specification sheets, lists of plants and/or trees to be used in the projects, bills and receipts.
