LAKELAND REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER, RG4300, 1912-2003

Series I, Morrell Memorial Hospital, 1921-1973

Original Morrell Hospital on S. Missouri Avenue

Morrell Memorial Hospital opened to the public on August 11, 1916. The original two-story building was situated on property fronting on South Missouri Ave. between Lemon and Orange streets. The land was donated to the city in the will of Mrs. Jane (F. A.) Morrell in whose memory it was named. The original hospital served the city's health care needs for 10 years until a more modern 100 bed facility was opened on Lakeland Hills Boulevard in 1926. The original building was used for classrooms by St. Joseph's Catholic Church until it was destroyed by fire in 1979.

This series contains ephemera, photographs, and newspaper articles from the Morrell Hospital. A large photograph of nurses and the Diploma of Mae Baker Ross are located in P100 Oversize Photographs Box.
