CITY OF LAKELAND EPHEMERA, RG100, 1898-2004

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of brochures, posters, news articles and other ephemera from the city government, Lakeland businesses, organizations,and civic groups. It is organized into eight series.

Series I, Tourism, consists of Booklets and brochures put out by the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce, magazine articles about Lakeland, fairs, festivals, and sports programs, and programs for the Miss Teen USA Pageant (1983 and 1992) and the Miss USA Pageant (1984-85) that were held in Lakeland.

Series II, Government, contains programs, fliers, posters, booklets and pamphlets documenting the activities of the City Commission, city employees, city dedication ceremonies, neighborhood development, the Parks and Recreation Department, and the 2002 Swansation celebration.

Series III, Businesses, consists of ephemeral publications from Lakeland businesses, including Breed Technologies, Discount Auto Parts, Publix Supermarkets, and the Lakeland Square Mall.

Series IV, Health and Housing, includes brochures, pamphlets, and ephemeral publications from miscellaneous health organizations in Lakeland. Lakeland Regional Medical Center is listed separately under "Manuscripts / Businesses."

Series V, Arts, includes programs and flyers for performances in the fine arts, music, and theater. Flyers from Arts on the Park, and programs from The Pied Pipers Theater group and Lakeland Little Theater are included. Other groups are listed separately under "Manuscripts / Fine Arts."

Series VI, Organizations, contains brochures, pamphlets, and flyers for such local organizations as the Junior Welfare League and the YMCA.

Series VII, Oversize Collection, contains posters and newspapers from Lakeland organizations.

Series VIII, Videotapes, contains videotapes documenting a variety of City events.
