BEACON HILL-ALTA VISTA HISTORIC DISTRICT, RG2465, 1990-1991

Scope and Content Note

The records in this collection were created as a result of efforts by the residents of the Beacon Hill/Alta Vista neighborhood to gain historic district status for their neighborhood. A grant was obtained to conduct a structural resources survey of the neighborhood to determine if it qualified for designation as an historic district. Subsequently, individual site survey forms were completed for each of the structures identified as having been constructed before the cut-off date of 1945.

More than eighty site survey forms were completed for structures in the Beacon Hill/Alta Vista neighborhood which met the survey criteria and were thus eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. It was this survey that played a major role in gaining historic status for the Beacon Hill/Alta Vista neighborhood.

The records in this collection document the survey and have been organized into two series, the Site Survey Forms and Historical note. The site surveys are pre-printed forms completed by volunteers for each of the structures in the neighborhood built prior to 1945. Each of the completed forms contains a variety of useful information about the surveyed structure.

The series also contains an index linking the number on the form to a specific address, as well as a copy of the structural resources survey report.
