HISTORIC LAKELAND, INC., RG5520, 1979-2010

Series II, Historic Districts and Buildings, 1979-2001

This series contains materials relating to historic districts and structures in Lakeland. Among the districts represented in this series are Cleveland Heights, Dixieland, the downtown area, the Munn Park Historic District, and the South Lake Morton Historic District. Structures include the Coca Cola Building, the Lake Mirror Promenade, Lakeland High School, the Park Trammell Building, the Polk Theatre, the Sorosis Building, and the Sult House. The types of records include correspondence, historic site survey forms, site plans, reports, brochures, maps, and newspaper clippings.

There is considerable information in particular on Historic Lakeland's long and continuing effort to have the Lake Mirror Promenade restored to its 1928 grandeur. The materials relating to the Lake Mirror Promenade reveal the impact that a group of committed and dedicated volunteers can have on the aesthetic values of a community. The files on the Coca Cola Building, the Park Trammell Building, and the Polk Theatre document the role of Historic Lakeland in preserving, restoring, and protecting those structures for future generations.

The records in this series are arranged alphabetically by name, subject, or type of record and chronologically within folders.
