Scope and Content Note

The Dottie Waddell Papers were donated to the Special Collections unit of the Lakeland Public Library in October 1999. An additional donation was made in 2002. The records were in good condition and in no particular order when they were received. Dottie Waddell is a singer, song writer, poet, playwright, and social activist in Lakeland. The types of records included correspondence, videotapes, audio cassettes, records albums, photographs, newspaper clippings press releases, certificates of award, scripts, and Waddell's published and unpublished writings.

After the processing, the records were organized into three series as follows: Series I, Subject Files; Series II, Writings; and Series III, Audio and Video Recordings.

Series I, Subject Files, 1964-1994, 2002 contains photographs, correspondence, a biographical sketch, certificates of award, press releases, and newspaper clippings. 

Series II, Writings, 1969-1998, contains Waddell's published and unpublished writings and includes poems, a typescript of the GoldeBriars: Starving, Laughing, Crying, an account of her experiences in a 1960's era folk/rock group, typescripts of both the play and screen play of her play Land of Myrtle the Gloom, lyrics to one of her songs, and a cook book of recipes for the allergy prone.

Series III, Audio and Video Recordings, contains audio cassettes, video tapes, a compact disk and record albums. Included are recordings of the GoldeBriars, a compact disk of songs recorded by Waddell in the late 1960's and reissued in 2002, cassette and compact disk recordings of children's groups singing songs written by Waddell, and video recordings of a stage production of Waddell's play, Land of the Myrtle the Gloom, as well as video tapes of public service announcements done by Waddell and a video tape of an interview done by Waddell on a local program called "Round the Town."

The collection comprises 1.25 linear feet.
