Scope and Content Note

The records in this collection were created as a result of a survey of the proposed Dixieland Historic District commissioned in 1993 by Lakeland's Community Development Office. The survey was conducted during the summer of 1993 by Historic Property Associates, Inc. under contract to the City of Lakeland.

The company produced completed site survey forms for 470+ structures in the Dixieland neighborhood which were more than fifty years old and thus eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. It was this survey that played a major role in gaining historic district status for the Dixieland neighborhood.

"The Historic Properties Survey of the Dixieland Neighborhood" and the Dixieland Neighborhood Plan, "Preserving Community Character", drafted by the Community Development Department of the City of Lakeland in January 1994, are in box 3 of this collection.

The records in this collection have been organized into one series, the Site Survey Forms. The site survey forms are pre-printed forms completed by staff of Historic Property Associates for each of the structures in the district believed to be more than fifty years old. Each of the completed forms contains a variety of useful information about each structure surveyed.
