Scope and Content Note

The Paul Ross Photo Collection was donated to the Special Collections unit of the Lakeland Public Library by Ross's son David in 2010.

Paul Ross was a native of Rosedale, Indiana and a graduate of Indiana State Teachers College. He arrived in Lakeland in 1942 to serve as a flight instructor at the Lodwick School of Aeronautics, which trained pilots for service in World War II. After the war Ross continued his career as a flight instructor at Garner Aviation in Lakeland, while also continuing an interest in photography which had begun at the Lodwick School of Aeronautics. Ross died in Lakeland on December 29, 2002 at the age of 84.

The collection consists of approximately 40 black and white photographs of the Lodwick School of Aeronautics and sites around Lakeland, including the swimming pool at Adair Park, the gate at the Carpenters' Home, the Terrace Hotel, Lake Mirror, the Lakeland Public Library, and the Wedgewoods  golf course.

The photographs are arranged alphabetically by subject.  Click here to view digital copies of the Ross photos.
