On March 31, at 7:55 a.m., the Lakeland Police Department received a call in reference to an adult male found deceased in a ditch in the area of 1100 Prospect Street. The Violent Crimes Detectives responded to the scene and canvassed the area for witnesses as well as looking for any additional evidence. The State Attorney's Office and  Medical Examiner responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. The autopsy performed later in the evening revealed that the victim had been shot numerous times. Detectives are not releasing how many times he was shot at this time. The victim has been identified as Demetrice Tavontate Stacy, B/M, DOB 9/14/91, 1437 North Webster Avenue, Lakeland, Fla.

This is investigation is still ongoing at this time and there have been no arrest. Anyone with information can call the Lakeland Police Department at 834-8950.   



Notice from FDOT of upcoming road closures on I-4

Make a note that at the end of March I-4 in the Lakeland area will be closed in order to allow for CSX to make railroad track repairs at the Kathleen Road overpass. Drivers are urged to pla...n extra travel time during the weekend of March 29 – 30, 2014.

The schedule is as follows:

On Saturday, March 29, 2014 I-4 westbound will be closed from 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

The traffic flow plan is:
• Regional traffic will leave I-4 westbound at exit 41 and follow the Polk Parkway to I-4 westbound on March 29.
• Tolls westbound on the Polk Parkway will be suspended.
• Local traffic westbound on I-4 to Lakeland will use exit 32/US 98.

On Sunday, March 30, 2014 I-4 eastbound will be closed from 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

The traffic flow plan is:
• Regional traffic will leave I-4 eastbound at exit 27 and follow the Polk Parkway to I-4 eastbound on March 30.
• Tolls eastbound on the Polk Parkway will be suspended.
• Local traffic eastbound on I-4 to Lakeland will use exit 28/US 92.

Motorists are advised to use caution and extend courtesy to other drivers. Please buckle up and pay attention to traffic and detour signs.

On Saturday, March 1, 2014, at approximately 9:11 a.m., a white vehicle, possibly a Dodge Caravan or a Durango backed in the parking space next to the victim’s vehicle in the parking lot of Kathleen Hair Supply, 1404 Providence Road. When the victim returned to her vehicle, she discovered it had been broken into.

It appeared that the unknown suspect(s) exited the white vehicle and went up to the driver side of the victim’s vehicle. The suspect vehicle was there for a few minutes and exited the parking lot.

The vehicle exited the parking lot as if they were aware that the location was equipped with video surveillance.

The results of the 2014 USPCA Spring K9 Field Trials are in! For the 4th year in a row, LPD won the Regional 4 man Team. And, for the 3rd year in a row, an LPD team has taken home the title of “Top Dog”. Congratulations to Officer Peterman and K9 Nox on their first Regional Top Dog Championship.
