Attempt to Identify - Grand Theft Suspect

            

On Saturday, September 28, 2013 at approximately 4:00 p.m., Lakeland Police responded to the J C Penney, 3800 Hwy 98 N in reference to a grand theft. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a loss prevention officer who stated the suspect was dropped off at the men's entrance and entered the shoe department. He stated the suspect removed some shoes from their boxes and concealed the merchandise in several JC Penney shopping bags. The suspect then exited through the catalog entrance with the shoes. The suspect did this twice. The suspect then fled in the suspect vehicle.

The suspect is described as a black female, 30 to 40 years old, wearing a soccer jersey with the number 8 on the back, shorts and a baseball cap.

The suspect vehicle is a black compact vehicle.

Anyone with information on the identification of the suspect or the vehicle, are asked to contact the Lakeland Police Department at 863-834-6900, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-8477. To be eligible for a cash reward, you must contact Crime Stoppers.


Homicide Investigation Update

UPDATE
October 28, 2013

The homicide victim has now been identified as 43 year old, Thomas Howard Garrison.  His next of kin, brother Frederick Parks, Jr. of Miramar, FL has been notified.  As of this Media Release an autopsy has not been completed.

On October 24, 2013 at approximately 10:12 p.m., several 911 calls were received about gunshots in the area of Gilmore Avenue and Parker Street. Patrol Officers responded and upon arrival located an adult male with a gunshot wound. The unknown male was found lying in the front yard of 708 East Parker Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The decedent has not been positively identified. An autopsy has been scheduled.

There are no arrests and no further details are being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation. As further information becomes available, updates will be released.


LPD will Participate in 2nd Global Police Tweet-a-thon

On November 1, 2013 the Lakeland Police Department will take part in the 2nd Global Police Tweet-a-thon. Last March the department participated in the first ever Global Tweet-a-thon with over 200 law enforcement agencies in 10 countries, speaking 23 languages! During the 24 hour period the participants in the tweet-a-thon sent and shared 48,482 tweets. This time we are hoping to increase the number of participating agencies and tweets.

Why participate? The Lakeland Police Department wants to help promote the use of social media in policing and get the message out to our community, and beyond, about police work and the issues officers face in the performance of their job. We want to connect with our community and give you information in the most effective, efficient manner. We currently use our Twitter, Facebook, Nixle and website to provide information directly to our community. During the Tweet-a-thon, agencies will use the hashtag #poltwt.

So, on November 1st, follow @LakelandPD as we embark on this 2nd Global Police Tweet-a-thon. This time we will also have Sergeant Gary Gross and Captain Rick Taylor tweeting, so you can follow them as well, use @GaryBGross and @CaptRTaylor.

Missing/Endangered Adult - UPDATE

October 26, 2013

Mr. Melvin returned to his home around noon today, 10/26/13.  He appeared to be in good health.  The family stated that they appreciated the Lakeland Police Department and the community’s efforts in helping locate Mr. Melvin.

The Lakeland Police Department is requesting assistance from the community in locating a Missing/Endangered Adult.

Quentin Dion Melvin
B/M DOB: 4/11/89

Quentin Dion Melvin was last seen in the area of 501 Hartsell Avenue #6 at approximately 1:00 a.m.  on 10/25/13. Melvin left on foot for a walk and has not returned. Mevlin has mental health issues and is on medication. Melvin has black hair, short dreads, and brown eyes. Melvin was last seen wearing a red, short sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and black clog-like “Croc” shoes. Melvin has a scar on his right forearm and another scar over his left eyebrow. Family members state that this is the first time Melvin has gone missing from home. Melvin walks from home to local businesses in the area of his home.
