Lakeland Police are actively looking for Steven “Prince” Foster in connection with the murder of Ricky Wright on October 10, 2013. A warrant has been issued for his arrest for First Degree Murder. Anyone with information on the location of Steven Foster is asked to contact the Lakeland Police Detective Russell Hurley 863-834-8973 or Detective Brian Wallace at 863-834-8968.

On October 10, 2013at approximately 11:30 pm, officers responded to 808 West Whitehurst Street where they discovered a 16 year old black male juvenile (later identified as Ricky Wright, DOB 7/7/97) had been shot.  Wright was transported to LRMC where he later died as a result of the injuries sustained from the shooting.

Witnesses interviewed at the scene stated a blue or gray vehicle pulled up to the residence and fired shots from the vehicle at the victim who was in the yard at 808 West Whitehurst Street. According to witnesses, there was more than one person in the vehicle. The vehicle then fled the area. At this time the suspect of the shooting has not been identified, but detectives are pursuing leads at this time.

No additional information will be released at this time as this remains on ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding this shooting is asked to contact the Lakeland Police Department, Detective Russell Hurley at 863-834-8973.


On Tuesday, October 15, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., eat at Chick-fil-A at 4625 South Florida Avenue and they will donate 10% of the proceeds to the Cops for Kids program.  Donations will help provide children with a happy holiday.  We will also be accepting new, unwrapped toy donations at this event.

During the week of September 30 – October 4, 2013, the Lakeland Police Department K9 Unit competed in the USPCA National Patrol Dog 1 Trials just outside of the nation’s capital. For a second year in a row, the K9 Unit won and retained the title of National Champions. In addition to this great achievement, Officer Ted Sealey and K9 Bruno retain their title of “Top Patrol Dog” in the nation.

 

The top K9 team in the nation belongs to:

 

·         Officer Aaron Peterman and K9 Charief

·         Officer Rob Manrow and K9 Quanto

·         Officer Ted Sealey and K9 Bruno

·         Officer Chad Whitaker and K9 Bane

·        Officer Jeff Barrett and K9 Echo (Team Leader/alternate)

 

The Lakeland Police Department is very proud of all the officers who represent our department not only in competitions, but day to day in their regular duties protecting our community. To become this proficient at their jobs at this level requires dedication and commitment to excellence.

Lakeland Police Department will hold their Open House on Saturday, October 19th from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. This year our theme is “Let’s Keep Moving”. We are focusing on health, wellness and fitness and have invited vendors to share their information to help us get…and stay healthy! Some of the businesses that have committed are:  Just Dance, Planet Fitness, LA Fitness, Bent’s Bicycle Shop, LeRoy’s Bicycle Shop, InnerAct Alliance and Omega Man, to just name a few. The Community Services Unit will be doing bicycle helmet fittings and giving away free helmets to the children.

 

In addition to the vendors that will share a wealth of knowledge, we will have our K9’s, SWAT team, DUI Enforcement, Hostage Negotiators, Crime Scene Techs, the Helicopter and more! Along with LPD’s components, we will have other city partners with us; the Fire Department, Lakeland Electric, Lakeland Water, Coleman Bush and Simpson Park.

 

There will be tours of the police station beginning at 10:30 a.m. and run until 1:30 p.m. These tours include the Crime Lab, Communications Center and the Emergency Operations Center.

 

You will be able to enjoy plenty of children’s activities and entertainment. And, hot dogs and popcorn will be served during the event.

 

So gather your family, friends and neighbors and come out and enjoy a day with the Lakeland Police Department.
