Loving, caring teachers and a whole lot of mentoring and tutoring to go along with it.
PAL prides itself in the extra effort we take in spending extra time with each student, and providing one on one specialized attention. We try to do much more for our community’s youth to provide the benefits of access to quality tutoring, mentoring, encouragement and balanced meals as the demand continues to grow in our city.
Whether it be hands on activities or field trips PAL After School Kids always have a blast.
Our students that have actively participated in our program missed fewer meetings with teacher to get clarification on subject matter or get free tutoring assistance given at the school. Most frequently the children have improved in the core academic courses (English, Math, Science and Social Studies). This is particularly encouraging because we aim at improving academics as best we can to assist parents. By creating an open line of communication with parents about their child’s progress we given incentive on the parents part to find out what’s going on in school.
More than half of our students who have attended regularly improved both academically and especially behaviorally, and our teachers are reporting to me daily that the students have made the most progress in turning in homework on time, completing homework to teachers’ satisfaction and participating in class and getting better notes in agendas on good behavior.
We have also added the kindergarten to eighth grade levels increased time in board games and strategy which has helped in critical thinking needed for successful test-taking.
Our lead Teacher Mrs. Gail instituted incentive treasure box to encourage good behavior throughout the week so that children have a reward to look forward to for improvement in homework grades, and behavior in the program.
