CIVIL SERVICE/PENSION BOARDS 2008 Civil Service Board Election |
The State Legislature has enacted legislation that implements the separation of the Civil Service/Pension Board. For the Pension Board, those trustees presently serving will continue to serve on the Pension Board until the expiration of the terms for which they were appointed or elected.
For the Civil Service Board, the city commission will appoint three (3) persons and the full-time employees of the city shall appoint three (3) persons. The six (6) new members shall be appointed in the following manner: two (2) to serve a one-year term; two (2) to serve a two-year term; and two (2) to serve three-year terms. Upon taking office, those members shall select a seventh member. That member shall serve a three (3) year term.
Qualification of Members: Any qualified voter residing in the City of Lakeland, Florida, over the age of twenty-one (21) years, shall be eligible to hold office as a member of the civil service board, provided that no person who has been convicted of a felony, or who is or has been within one year prior to his election or appointment an officer or employee of the city, shall be eligible for election or appointment to such office.
