K9-Officers Recognized at City Commission Meeting

The City Commission took a few moments from their meeting this morning to recognize the two Lakeland K-9 Officers and their partners who performed so well at the recent National K-9 Trials.

The competition, held in West Des Moines, Iowa, featured 100 K-9 teams from around the country.

Officer Aaron Peterman with K-9 "Charief" finished second in the trials, a mere .33 points out of first place. Peterman's final score was 690.50 out of 700.00 possible points. He and his K-9 partner finished in first place in Agility, second place in Obedience, third in Search, and fifth in Apprehension.

Officer Jeff Barrett with K-9 "Benno" finished in eighth place this year.

In addition to their individual performances, Officers Peterman and Barrett joined forces with two other officers from our state as part of a combined team from USPCA Region 1 (Florida). This four-man team finished in first place in the team competition as well.

The Police Department limited their participation this year to just two officers. To have both teams finish in the Top Ten is an outstanding accomplishment - our congratulations to both of them and their partners.
