City of Lakeland Lifeguards Place First Runner-Up at Lifeguard Games
Lakeland, Fl) – August 12, 2009 -- The City of Lakeland, Florida, is excited to report that a team of lifeguards from its Parks and Recreation Department placed first runner up at the Second Annual Pinellas Aquatics Council Lifeguard Games held in St. Petersburg on August 9th.

The lifeguards, who can normally be found patrolling the pool decks of Gandy and Simpson Pools, competed against teams from across the bay area including Largo, St. Pete and Tampa. They participated in various relay races and eagerly showed off their rescue and first aid skills. This was Lakeland’s first year participating in this competition. Additionally, Lakeland was the only team competing with Ellis and Associate lifeguard licenses (International Pool and Water Park) so they had to “make it work,” with small differences in how they executed skills.

National sponsors of the event including Lincoln Equipment and Ferris Pools should help bring attention to the skills that lifeguards across the nation utilize.
