Live Homework Help From the Lakeland Public Library

Students access FREE Homework Help from Expert Online Tutors
LAKELAND, FL (August 22, 2005) - The Lakeland Public Library is proud to now offer Live Homework Help, an online tutoring service from Tutor.com, that allows students to access expert tutors in math, science, social studies and English via the internet. Spanish-speaking tutors are available in math and science.
Students from 4th grade to 12th grade can visit the Lakeland Public Library’s website www.lakelandgov.net/library to get immediate, FREE online help from qualified tutors, seven days a week from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Live Homework Help is easy to use. Children and young adults log on through www.lakelandgov.net/library and enter their grade level and the subject they need help in. Immediately, students are connected to a tutor in an online classroom. Children and young adults can also access the service on computers located at the main library or Larry R. Jackson Branch Library. Students and parents are invited to drop in for a free demonstration of the program at the Main Library, 100 Lake Morton Drive on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the meeting room. Light refreshments will be provided.

City Librarian Lisa Lilyquist is pleased that the library is able to offer this service to students. Lilyquist said, “Serving the needs of our student population is important. I believe this service is a wonderful opportunity for the library to help the young people in our community succeed in school.” She added, "This free service allows students to receive homework help from a live tutor."

Students and tutors can review specific homework questions, as well as subject-specific concepts using features such as controlled chat, an interactive white board and shared web browsing in the online classroom. Tutors and students can type math equations using a special math tool, share educational web sites and much more for a rewarding learning experience. All tutors are certified teachers, college professors, professional tutors or graduate school students from across the country. They love to teach and share their knowledge online.
