The City Commission met on Friday, August 31st to review and discuss agenda items for the upcoming City Commission Meeting on Tuesday, September 4th at the new meeting time, 3 PM.

The City of Lakeland held a Grand Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting for Douglas M. Cook Park on Saturday, August 25th. The celebration opened with a dedication ceremony that featured Class of 2018 Pro Football Hall of Famer and Lakeland native, Ray Lewis. Lewis, alongside City Officials, Lakeland PAL officers and Renee Tucker (sister of the late Douglas M. Cook) cut the ribbon, officially opening the park. Cook Park is located at 955 Wedgewood Estates Boulevard, Lakeland, FL 33809.
Traffic Operations and Parking Services (TOPS) is introducing plan to help enhance the operational safety of the Cleveland Heights Boulevard/Lake Miriam Drive/Scott Lake Road intersection. A number of stakeholders and citizen advocates assisted in the development of the safety enhancements. Input was received from Lakeland Highlands Middle School, Polk County Traffic Operations, Lakeland Police Department and members from the City of Lakeland’s Public Works Department.
he 100 Block of South Kentucky Avenue will close on Tuesday, September 4th starting at 5:00 AM for wastewater repairs. The southbound lane of Kentucky Avenue will be closed to traffic between Main Street and Lemon Street. A section of the sidewalk on the westside of the street will also be impacted while Wastewater crews open the street to examine utility lines along the 100 block. This action is needed so crews can visually see what is there before a much more intensive project is planned.
