In case you missed it, here's what happened last week (July 1-7, 2018) in Lakeland!
The Lakeland City Commission met on Monday, July 2nd. For a full list of City Commission Meeting dates and agendas for each meeting, visit lakelandgov.net/agendas. The public may attend any City Commission Meeting in person (meetings start at 9 AM) and/or are invited to watch online or on Spectrum Channel 643/FiOS Channel 43.
ATTENTION PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS: The Lakeland CRA has two opportunities for you to showcase your artwork! They are commissioning artists to create murals at 3 locations within their districts as well as themed historical portraits along Lake Parker's shared-use path.
If you are interested in either public art project, we need you to do the following:
Parks and Recreation Month, received by Bob Donahay, Director of the Parks and Recreation department with the City of Lakeland, Michael Marotz, John Williams, Tim Abram, Steve Platt, Cosmo, Danny Bell, Bill Koen, Ashley Cooper, LuAnn Mims, Greg McFall and additional Parks and Recreation staff.
Congratulations to Ron Tomlin on being named the July 2018 Beautification Award winner!
The City of Lakeland closed a portion of Dog Leg Woods Dog Park because of standing water issues in the large dog area on July 3rd. The large dog area will be closed approximately one week while Parks & Recreation crews remove the existing standing water and work on a drainage solution that will mitigate the issue.
On Tuesday, July 3rd, the City of Lakeland's annual Independence Day celebration, Red White and Kaboom - sponsored by T.Mims Corp., took place at the Frances Langford Promenade at Lake Mirror. Guests brought food for a large canned/non-perishable food drive to benefit Volunteers in Service to the Elderly (VISTE), participated in a highly competitive watermelon eating contest, enjoyed delicacies from a plethora of food trucks/vendors while musical guests Clemons Road took the stage. An impressive fireworks display lit up the sky at 9 PM. Thanks to everyone who came out for this awesome event!
