Camp BLAST logo

Camp BLAST Collects Donations for Senior Orphans

The City of Lakeland Parks & Recreation Department's summer enrichment program, "Camp Blast," collected more than 3500 items for the Senior Orphans of Polk County!  

Camp Blast is a day camp operated out of five Polk County Public Schools and the Simpson Park Community center providing a fun supervised environment for elementary school-aged children in our community.  Participants spend their summer skating, swimming, and engaging with their fellow campers.

Portion of Lime Street Will Be Closed for Multi-Departmental Project

The City of Lakeland will be doing extensive work on Lime Street that includes a sewer main relocation project, the install of two raised cross walks and accessibility improvements for patrons visiting the RP Funding Center. A portion of Lime Street in front of the RP Funding Center will be closed for approximately two weeks during the multi-departmental construction project.  Message Boards are currently in place warning drivers about the upcoming closure.  The closure will start the morning of July 30th with the impacted area of Lime Street expected to be re-open on August 15th with detours clearly marked.

Douglas Cook Park Grand Opening - Ray Lewis Celebrating Pro-Football Hall of Fame Induction

The City of Lakeland will have the Grand Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting for Douglas Cook Park on Saturday, August 25th.  The celebration will start at 11:30 AM with a dedication ceremony that will feature Ray LewisClass of 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee. Lewis among others will cut the ribbon, officially opening the park. Cook Park is located at 955 Wedgewood Estates Boulevard, Lakeland, FL 33809.

Historic Preservation Board Vote on Munn Park Monument Relocation

 

The Historic Preservation Board voted unanimously to accept the staff recommendation to remove and relocate the Confederate Monument from Munn Park.
